What we already knew at Asiaventura is now official: the prestigious travel magazine Travel + Leisure has ranked Koh Chang as the second-best tropical destination in the world!
In first place come the Maldives, followed by our hidden gem in the Gulf of Thailand. A recognition all the more prestigious as Koh Chang now beats the Hawaiian islands and is officially among the most beautiful islands on the planet.
To celebrate this lovely accolade, we've decided to put Koh Chang in the spotlight with a few photos from one of our recent trips, illustrating perfectly why this island is worth the detour.
When you think of Thailand's paradise islands, you often picture Phuket or Koh Samui. Most travellers head for these well-known destinations, yet Koh Chang remains a little-known treasure, far from the bustle of the busiest places. The country's second-largest island, it lies east of Bangkok, near the Cambodian border, away from the classic tourist circuits.
This is doubtless one of the reasons this jewel of the Gulf of Thailand has been spared mass tourism. Here, nature reigns: dense tropical vegetation, still-wild white-sand beaches and authentic fishing villages where life follows its peaceful course, offering a rare glimpse of traditional Thailand.

While the bays of Koh Chang are home to almost-deserted dream beaches, the island's interior offers an equally breathtaking spectacle. More than 70% of its territory is covered in dense jungle, a real playground for lovers of nature and exploration. Hiking trails through the jungle, secret waterfalls and kayak excursions along the wild coasts: Koh Chang is a true natural paradise.

Koh Chang is now among the most beautiful tropical destinations, and it would be unthinkable not to pay tribute to its beaches. It's they, with their white sand and the spellbinding melody of the sea, that give the island its enchanting atmosphere and draw travellers in search of peace and beauty.

As its name suggests, White Sand Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Koh Chang. Easily accessible, it has a well-built road leading directly to the village, where shops and restaurants extend right to the seafront.
But for those in search of escape, Koh Chang is also full of unspoilt beaches and peaceful coves, where only the waves break the silence. Lying under the palm trees, a nice cool coconut in hand, you savour the very essence of tropical paradise.

One of the reasons Koh Chang has managed to preserve its natural charm lies in the island's responsible and sustainable tourism development. Many hotels adopt environmentally friendly practices, from plastic-free accommodation to the use of solar energy.
The Mu Ko Chang National Park is protected by strict regulations, and local guides make sure to minimise the impact of their excursions on the ecosystem. The involvement of local communities is essential too, whether in food, transport or accommodation, where many small family-run establishments take part in this sustainable dynamic.
If you join one of our trips to Thailand, you'll have the chance to chat with the residents of the fishing villages of Salak Khok and Bang Bao, and discover their traditional way of life.

Thailand aims to welcome eight million European tourists by 2025, a figure that reflects the country's growing popularity, where tourism is essential to the economy. With Koh Chang's recent accolade from Travel + Leisure, the island is now in the spotlight, and we can expect an increase in visitor numbers.
But the island is still a well-kept secret. If you'd like to discover this still-unspoilt island, don't waste any time and make it your next destination.
