June sees the mainland settle into its green season while the islands to the south bask in sunshine. With school holidays approaching and the crowds still modest, it is a rewarding, good-value month for the savvy traveller who follows the dry weather.
On the mainland, June is warm and humid with regular but usually short-lived rain, often a heavy afternoon burst that clears to leave bright, washed skies.
South of the equator it is a different story: Bali and Indonesia are firmly in their dry season, as are the Gulf islands of Thailand, offering dependable sunshine.

June is a superb month for Bali, with warm, dry days, cooler evenings and the island looking its best before the July-August rush.
It is ideal for the beaches of the south, the rice terraces around Ubud, and diving trips out towards the Gili Islands and Komodo, where the water is clear and calm.

With the Andaman coast in its wetter phase, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are the smart beach choice in June. Expect warm, mostly dry days perfect for lazing, snorkelling and diving.
Koh Phangan's famous full-moon party also draws a lively crowd, so time your visit around it, or away from it, to taste.

Do not overlook the mainland. June's greenery makes it a beautiful time for northern Vietnam and the Cambodian countryside, with vivid rice fields and full, dramatic waterfalls.
Sites such as Angkor and Chiang Mai are quieter and cheaper than in high season, and a short daily shower is a small price for having them near to yourself.
