Sipping a cocktail 200 metres up while taking in the view is one of the must-do experiences in Bangkok.
If you love lofty heights and one-of-a-kind bars, here are a few recommendations that should more than satisfy you.
Bangkok, the Thai capital, boasts more than 100 skyscrapers rising over 150 metres high. What's more, Bangkok is a tropical city, so it stays warm all year round, even after nightfall!

This combination of height and the perfect climate has spurred the emergence of numerous rooftop bars (a bar or restaurant on a roof).
The capital is home to at least thirty of them, some spectacular and chic, others more modest and low-key. The most renowned are clustered near the Chao Phraya River, or close to the major avenues, particularly Sathorn and Sukhumvit.

The most famous of them all is undoubtedly the one perched atop the Lebua Tower. From the 64th floor, it offers a breathtaking view over the river and the horizon. It was made famous by the film The Hangover Part II, in a wild scene involving a helicopter. The downside of this popularity is that the place is packed all year round and the prices are higher than elsewhere.

A newcomer since 2018 is the Mahanakhon Skybar. It sits on the 76th floor of the Mahanakhon tower, the tallest skyscraper in the country and, without doubt, the most striking of them all.
Beyond the setting, the appeal of this bar and restaurant is that it gives access, two floors higher, to a transparent floor that lets you gaze into the void beneath your feet. Solid ground is 300 metres below, so a lurch of the stomach is guaranteed! Like its rival, the place is upmarket and popular with tour groups.

At Asiaventura, we prefer to take you to the Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar, as it sits on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree hotel, on Sathorn Road.
In keeping with the hotel, the atmosphere is luxurious yet peaceful, even intimate. The little extra that makes all the difference is the full 360-degree view and the location: the bar puts you in the best seat in the house to admire the sprawl of the city and the famous Mahanakhon tower.
Among the best-known and best-loved spots, we can also mention the Red Sky Bar and Restaurant, atop the Central World shopping centre, or the Octave Rooftop and Lounge Bar, the most impressive on Sukhumvit Avenue.

As Bangkok is a megacity you could never finish exploring, it has plenty of other spots that boast a spectacular view.
Rooftop-bar enthusiasts will keep uncovering fresh ideas, whether grand and prestigious or hidden and secret, the more they explore the city.
