Cheow Larn is a man-made lake amidst the beautiful rainforest of Khao Sok National Park. The rainforest, is more than 300 million years old, home to an abundance of wildlife and surrounded by towering limestone mountains. Those who venture deep enough encounter its crown jewel: the Cheow Larn lake. It was constructed in 1987 by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand but, luckily, escaped pollution due to community efforts. Its waters are emerald and contrast the green of the rainforest beautifully. The lake features several channels reaching out into the jungle and each features unique natural wonders. Caves, waterfalls, viewpoints, hiking trails and animal as well as bird watching opportunities greet those eager to explore.

The main mode of transportation at the lake are long tail boats sending guests on excursions or to the various floating hotels dotted throughout the area. The hotels, also called raft houses, come in various styles: from very basic to deluxe. Most offer a restaurant and a little shop as well as lots of fun activities. Guests can take a plunge in Cheow Larn lake straight from their rooms' porch, explore on a kayak or paddle board or unwind during fishing.
