Jim Thompson was an American businessman and designer who revolutionized the silk and textile industry. After his discharge from military service in 1946, he settled in Thailand. In 1948, he founded his own silk business. At the height of his career in 1967, Jim Thompson disappeared under mysterious circumstances in the jungles of Malaysia. His body was never found. He used his background as an interior designer to combined the old and the new design that led to the rise of the classic-modern Thai decorations today.
