Information about Koh Samui
What can I see in Koh Samui?
The dream island of Koh Samui is known for paradisiacal bays, exclusive wellness oases, and restaurants with Thai and international specialties. Enjoy the sunshine, stroll on the white sandy beaches and sip a refreshing coconut and let your mind wander. The island is the second largest in Thailand and can be explored by adventurous guests with a rental scooter on their own, or by traditional taxi or TukTuk.
Samui offers countless beaches and secluded bays that invite you to relax. Water sports such as kayaks, banana boats and jet skis are available, so-called seawalking is brand new, whereby guests can walk on the sea floor with a weighting oxygen helmet. Furthermore, there are waterfalls, jungle trails, and local gardens to be explored.
Every weekend there is a local night market selling goodies and souvenirs - keep an eye out for a monkey carved from a single coconut - a popular souvenir. In addition, Koh Samui offers a variety of traditional Thai massage parlours where you can relax and forget everything around you. In the evening we recommend a trip to the fishing village of Bophut. Here you can stroll through the pedestrian zone, enjoy fresh fish in a restaurant on the beach or sip a cocktail in a beach bar.
Optionally, it is possible to book a day trip to the nearby Mu Ko Ang Thong Marine National Park to see corals and fish and swim in crystal clear waters. You will depart from Koh Samui Airport, one of the most beautiful airports in the world, made almost entirely of wood and designed very openly. While the plane takes off you can see the Big Buddha and beautiful beaches and reflect on the wonderful memories of the past weeks in Thailand.
The best travel time for Samui
In contrast to most places in Thailand, Samui does not adhere to the usual monsoons and rainy seasons. The island can be visited almost all year round. In the period from March to August, however, it can get very hot. Heavy rain showers are possible from the end of November to January, but they usually do not last long.
Eating out in Samui
The waters around Samui are rich in marine life. You can therefore enjoy freshly caught fish, shellfish, lobsters, crabs, and shrimp every day. These are prepared the Thai way with tamarind, lemon, ginger, or coconut sauce and their taste is unsurpassable. Not only fish lovers get their money's worth here: Samui has a wide range of excellent restaurants that offer dishes from all over Thailand and all over the world. You are also welcome to try some of the exotic fruits that grow on the island and are sold on the street. Mango and papaya taste particularly sweet here.
