Seasons and Temperature
The average annual temperature is 30°C, ranging from 33°C in April to 25°C in December.
- Hot season: May to October | 30 – 36°C
- Cool, mostly dry season: November to April | 20 – 32°C
In general, the country can be visited year-round; the best time to travel varies depending on the region you are visiting:
Northern Vietnam: Between November and March, average temperatures are around 20°C but can drop to as low as 10°C. Between May and October, it is often hotter than in southern Vietnam. There is no clearly defined dry and rainy season as in the south. In summer, temperatures can rise up to 40°C.
Central Vietnam: Central Vietnam has a tropical, alternating humid monsoon climate. There is a lot of rain from October to January. Average temperatures range between 20 and 23°C. During the warm and dry southwest monsoon, temperatures rise to up to 40°C between February and August.
Southern Vietnam: Throughout the year, temperatures in southern Vietnam range between 25 and 36°C. It is somewhat cooler between November and February. The rainy season is from May to October, but it usually rains for only about an hour at a time.
